Are courses full-time or part-time?

Kildare FETC deliver part-time courses only. There are part-time programmes available on the Adult Basic Education & Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) programmes

At what age can I enrol in a Further Education Programme in Kildare FET?

A student must be 16years of age to enrol in an Adult Basic Education or a Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) programme.

What are the entry requirements for a Literacy or Basic Education Programme?

You may qualify if you wish to improve your basic skills for everyday living and further education


you are unemployed and wish to improve your employability skills


you are employed on a CE scheme

Are night classes available in Kildare FETC?

Yes, there are some night classes available in Adult Basic Education & the BTEI Programme. Details in the centre

How do I enrol in an adult literacy program?

 You are welcome to drop into the centre to find out what literacy programes are held in Kildare FETC  that could meet your needs. Then contact the Adult Literacy Organiser in the make an appointment to discuss the course most suitable for your level.

What is the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI)?

 The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults.  It aims is to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities.

Who can take part in BTEI programmes?

Anyone who has left full-time education can take part in a course being offered, but priority will be given to those with less than Leaving Certificate level qualifications.

Will I obtain certification for a BTEI course?

Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

 Flexible approaches will allow you to build up credits over time and achieve recognised qualifications.

What will a BTEI Course Cost?

 The participants eligible for free tuition are people who (or their dependents):

  • Have less than Leaving Certificate level qualifications or
    • Are getting a jobseeker's payment or means-tested social welfare payment (there is a list of eligible payments in the BTEI Operational Guidelines(pdf) or
    • Are getting Working Family Payment(formerly known as Family Income Supplement) or
    • Have a medical card or
    • Are eligible to participate on VTOS or Youthreach
